Korean Potato Pancake

Ahh yes – the Korean Potato Pancake. It harks back to the days of making pancakes at home, at least in name. This little thingy didn’t taste anything like an American Pancake, nor did its texture match what we think of with our Buttermilk Flapjacks. Instead this potato pancake had a savory flavor to it, which actually complimented the meal we were having at the time quite well. Not too salty, pretty well balanced for flavor, I really enjoyed this.

It really wasn’t what I had expected it to be, but then again, I was completely out of my comfort zone here because literally everything I was having was brand new. So it was exciting every time a new dish would come out. That being said, I was actually a little disappointed in this Potato hot cake (I just felt like using as many variations of pancake that I could in this one) because it was just sooooo oily. It seemed like they must have cooked this in a low temperature oil for a longer period of time because it just absorbed so much oil it was a turnoff for me. Despite the enjoyable flavor.

Verdict:

If only it was so oily! The flavor, and even texture were enjoyable, but the sheer volume of oil that this little spongecake (hah another pancake type reference) soaked up was just really overpowering. So, sadly, I had to give this a 5 out of 10. If it wasn’t so oily easily 8 or 9.
